The field trip with Madi's class last night

Yesterday I helped out with Madi's class & their 1st field trip. We went up to one of the local campgrounds for a team building exercise. There are 4 multi-age classes, each having 28 kids & they divided each class into 2 groups. Then they further divided the classes into groups of 14.

They did a lot of really cool activities which included putting on waders & going in the river to look at the fish, plants & bugs. They also did a project to test the water & investigate what was in it. They also did a thing where they had to climb through a big crack in the red rocks in which they had to rely on their team to give them directions on where to put each foot.

I was paired with one other mom & our activity involved having the kids figure out how to get their entire team from one spot to the next only using 2 boards. The boards had ropes on them & there was 2 different ways to do it. They could either use the ropes & work together like they were skiing or have everyone stand on one board & slide the other board to the front & just keep switching. It was really interesting to see what the group decided to do (we did not tell them anything before & they had to figure it out themselves) Some groups picked it up really quick but some took forever to just work together. I was really proud of Madi because she took on the roll of team leader & figured out the 2nd way really quick & lead her team to 1st place in a race.

Overall the day was really fun but HOT. Oh during the very last rotation, one boy got hurt doing one of the things & smashed his finger really bad. His teacher sent him to me & his finger was literally gushing blood! I helped him clean it up, bandage it & put ice on it because it was already super swollen. We called his mom & had her meet us at the school because he def needs a few stitches & he prob broke that finger too. I felt so bad for that boy because he started to panic when he saw all the blood. I had to keep him calm all the while keeping the other kids out of the way. It was hard because the other kids kept saying how bad it was & the hurt boys face was getting paler by the minute & I swear he almost passed out!

I am so bummed though because I forgot my camera but the teacher had a parent take pics of everything & she promised me copies of everything. One more funny thing...Madi's teacher had his kids pose for a group pic & started with all the 5th graders (I guess her class does not have 6th) in the back. Then he had Madi come over too because she is tall too. He also did a pic tallest to shortest & guess what? Madi is the tallest kid in her class! I knew she was tall but dang to be taller than all the 5th graders is a little crazy, lol
